Kana's Chronicles

Life in Kana-text (er… CONtext)

My own "Christmas Elf," Elena Grace, 2006

This little-bit is in response to fellow blogger, Things I Want to Tell My Mother, who posted a contest (challenge?) to share a Christmas memory of your mother in just 100 words…  Check out her post and jump in with YOURS–you have till December 5 to contribute.  So, 100 words exactly:

Some Christmas memories of my mother are only of my mother in retrospect—I didn’t realize at the time that the Christmas magician WAS my mother.  Santa Claus visited our house twice every Christmas Eve… Once while we performed in the church play, filling stockings and leaving a hand-written letter… A second time while we slept, leaving gifts under the tree, finishing the peanuts & beer we left out (Mommy said he’d be tired of milk & cookies), and turning his reindeer loose on our front porch, where they left hoof-prints in the snow around our water-dish-and-carrot offerings. Chapeau, Ma!

Love the memory and the idea. I might give it a try but I’m still working on my Thanksgiving blog!

  13. Great Post in addition to all the others. I wanted to spread the love via blogging awards, which I’m sure you can add to many others :) http://changedbychange.com/2011/11/29/from-the-jury-of-my-peers-my-first-blogging-awards/

  14. This reminded me so much of my mother, Kana…except for the beer. As a Brethren lady, she would have offered Santa hot chocolate, tea, coffee or apple juice, but she kept nothing alcoholic in the house. Poor Santa.

Your wonderful memory has been entered in the contest.

Well the next generation of Santa (ME) is a Recovering alcoholic, so beer wouldn’t be a good idea in our household either. ;)

Loved the Christmas memory. Congratulations on your sobriety. I am well aware of the struggles with the disease. My daughter just received her 6 month chip.
