On my Charger

This morning my husband says he can tell I’m “on my charger.” He knows that he has to periodically set me down by the edge of the sea, like putting a cell phone on its charger. It took twelve hours of sleep to get there, though—after a 2:30 am wake-up in Washington to catch the regional puddle jumper to Seattle in time for the trans-Pacific flight to Hawai’i. I’m older than I used to be, and not so resilient. After we unpacked in our condo and aaaahed at our water-view, we went to the supermarket to stock up on some essentials: COFFEE, and breakfast-foods. We usually get a unit with a kitchen so we can do our own breakfasts and save our eating-out for one “treat” meal a day. It’s easier on the budget, for sure. Anyway, we went to the supermarket, and I was completely walking dead—yawning my head off, shivering in the refrigerated aisles because I was so tired and (I guess) low on resources. We tried to keep me awake by going down to the pool, but that didn’t last long. I crashed out in bed at 5pm. Well, that was 8pm in the time zone I’d gotten up, so I guess I’m too old for 18-hour travel days.

I slept twelve hours, woke up at our usual 5am, but already adjusted to this time zone, and feeling like myself again. Joyful and grateful to be HERE. Breathing in the air, just sitting here absorbing the waves coming in below our balcony. Every time I woke up last night (which was a lot of times in my twelve hours) those waves put me right back under.

We’re relaxing on that balcony table—I”m sitting in that pictured chair right now—drinking our way through our second pot of coffee, and my prayer this morning is for energy and joy. Energy and Joy to make the most of the time we have here. We need a couple things from the dive shop before we really get going, so this is just some “hang out” time until the dive shop opens and we can start our day. Well, it has BEEN started, really, in the most gorgeous of ways.

  1. We’re only five hours from Hawaii but I’m an early riser and so a trip to the grocery for coffee is really important! Otherwise that first morning can be rough.Have a good time!
