Travel Day

It’s a shame that it’s not possible to get all the traveling done at the front end of a trip, just to get it over with. Some weird thing about physics or geography makes us have to END a vacation on this note.

As we pulled into Menehune Coffee Company this morning for our last-morning Loco Moco breakfast, we got a notice that our flight out would be delayed three hours—which would mean we’d miss the connection from Seattle to our regional airport. Instead of getting in after midnight, we wouldn’t have made it home till tomorrow afternoon. Well crap.

We called our airline and were told to sit tight and see if maybe we could make that connection. Not sure how that was supposed to happen—but (luckily, as it turns out) we had to check out of our condo anyway, so we headed to the airport way in advance of our delayed flight… which ended up being early enough to get rerouted through Maui and into Seattle in time for our connection. Hot damn!

Aloha, Hawai’i!

We’re sitting at the Seattle gate right now, in time to board. Then it’s one more hour of flying, then one hour of driving to land us home to our own bed! And never more grateful for it to be so, than after a day when we almost couldn’t even get there!

  1. Phew! This happened to me a few years back when I flew overseas. I had to end up finding another hotel for the night after checking out of the previous one. Thank goodness for the locals who helped me out! Hope you had a wonderful trip.

  2. Glad you made it, and it didn’t ruin your vacation. Flying is not fun anymore…living in Italy, with my daughter in the US….a necessary evil. Happy travels, I’m glad it all worked out.
